2012 GC, Pentastar 6 and Mall-Wheel-Drive. Just started clicking on acceleration, not consistently but easily 50% of the time. Frequency of clicking varies with vehicle speed. No rocks stuck in the treads, interior cargo is secured.
I got underneath yesterday and shook the front and rear drivelines. There’s a little less than 1/8-turn rotation, and a little front-back movement on front shaft. Didn’t get a look at the carrier bearing (bad angle, still in work clothes, other excuses). CV boots look fine. Connections to trans and differential feel solid.
What say ye? My suspicion is the carrier bearing, but I’ve never dealt with one before. Is there supposed to be a little slop in the driveline?

I’m no mechakinik anymore, but it does sound like maybe a u-joint. As a parts guy, I can tell you we don’t see many of those in for issues.

Hmm. Thank you for your input. Guess I should have someone look at it.

Yeah, driveline noises are the worst. Too many things turning that could cause the noise.... driving it up in the air with the wheels off the ground and checking components one-by-one with a stethoscope (or handy dandy screwdriver handle) is probably the best way to narrow it down.

U-Joint would make a much higher frequency clicking and a noticeable vibration. Despite the CV boots looking ok, those joints would be my first guess without listing to it myself.

Duly noted, I’ll give them a better look when I can get the rear end up.
